The Fund has also been awarded for shortening the Turn Around Time (TAT) on Benefits processing, Managing Director Richard Byarugaba has said.
Byarugaba said that the awards were a testament that the projects undertaken in the last one year are driving the Fund in the right direction.
“To have achieved such recognition in Africa within a period of one year is a tremendous achievement. I would like to thank the whole team at the Fund who, day in day out, ensure that we meet our commitment to our customers,” he said.
The Electronic Service Delivery project involved the “NSSF GO” campaign, launched in July this year, where NSSF members can access their contributions statements online and balances via SMS.
The Fund operates a relationship management model for contributions collection and has a dedicated Relationship Manager for every employer. As a result, contributions have risen from UGX 28 billion in June 2010 to UGX 40 billion in July this year.
The turnaround time for payment of benefits has gone down from over 106 days in June 2010 to 15 days as of October 2011.
Byarugaba said that the Fund is committed to more innovations that will improve customer experience.
The awards were announced by the ISSA International Jury in Arusha during the Social Security Forum on December 06, 2011 in Arusha, Tanzania.
Handing over the certificates to Byarugaba, the ISSA Secretary General Hans-Horst Konkolewsky commended the quality and diversity of the submissions by NSSF.
This is the second time NSSF is being awarded by ISSA. In 2008, the Fund was awarded Good Practice Award for Africa for an entry on "Enterprise-wide Risk Management" as well as a Certificate of Merit on “Strategic Management Framework”.
Launched in 2008, the ISSA Good Practice Award programme is organized on a regional basis over a three-year cycle, and the competition for Africa 2011 attracted 42 entries from 19 countries representing 21 organizations.
The awards were launched to recognize good practices in the management of social security and are presented on a regional basis at each ISSA Regional Social Security Forum every 3 years.
NSSF has been awarded International Certificates of Merit by the International Social Security Association for projects in Electronic Service Delivery and Relationship Management. |
