NSSF benefits paid to qualifying members for the month of October have topped Shs 6.7 billion to a total of 1,067 beneficiaries, figures released by the Fund show.
This is an increase from Shs 5.3 billion paid in September and Shs 5.7 billion the Fund paid out in August. This has also seen an increase in the average amount of money in benefits paid out increase from Ugx 3.5billion per month last year to over Ugx 5 billion this year. For purposes of providing evidence, we have published a list of workers who received this money for the month of October 2009. This is in addition to earlier lists published for September and August beneficiaries. NSSF will publish lists of beneficiaries per month in order to dispel misinformation that the Fund does not pay benefits.
However, we have deliberately left out the amounts which were paid to individual workers for ethical and legal reasons. Other details regarding these payments are available at the Fund.
It is also important to point out that some workers who are contributing to the Fund have, out of severe hardships, been approaching the Fund asking that they should be paid part of their money in order to solve their personal problems. The NSSF Act does not allow the Fund to pay out benefits other than Age, Invalidity, Emigration and Survivor’s benefits to eligible members.
